General
"Well I'm happy for our seniors and for the whole team overall. It's been a tough year, real difficulty this year and they kept fighting and finding ways to get it done. It wasn't a perfect season by any means and we have a lot of things we got to get better at, things we're not there yet with, but as far as taking steps forward. I don't think there is any question about that, end up 8-4 for the regular season, winning Pac-12 record for the first time since we joined the conference. So a lot of things we can build on off this season. We got to get better. The conference itself is a moving target and so we got to get better at a faster rate than everyone else."
On The Overall Series Against CU Since Joining The Pac-12
"They got all our respect. I said earlier in the week, a rivalry to me has some bad blood, there's some ill feelings, right now it's just mutual respect on both sides and I think it's been a great series so far, still young in its fourth year."
On The Interception Returned For A Touchdown
"I told the whole defense, `You got no chance to get a takeaway.' I said `You guys cannot get a takeaway.' I got right in their face and said `You don't got what it takes' and he [Dominique Hatfield] got ticked. So how is that for a series and he made the play. The two plays of the game were probably the fake punt, because we were stopped on the opening possession of the second half which is a real momentum killer, that kept the momentum and gave us the possession and then the pick six. Those were the two game breakers."
On CU's Screen Pass Tendencies
"Well we know when their screen downs are and what the tendencies are, we study that all week and our players hopefully study the same thing. We make sure to drill that into their heads. I'm not going say we weren't anticipating that but you still got to make the play and it was a great job by Dominique."
On Utah's Passing Attack
"It was nice to get the passing game on track and we were potent in the running game enough in that last drive to run the clock out, but it was good to see Travis throw for 300 yards, no interceptions I believe, got sacked a couple times but it was good to see the passing game make a major contribution. We needed that."
On What The Team Will Do In The Coming Weeks
"Sit around, go skiing, not much of anything. No, we'll bring them in and have a meeting on Monday, team meeting. We'll go back in the weight room next week. We still don't know where we're going, I guess we may not know for another week. We may get on the field towards the end of next week. All of the coaches will go out recruiting tomorrow, except for myself, I'll be there to run the team meeting Monday. Then, like I said, get them in the weight room and if we have a good idea that we are maybe going to a bowl that's earlier, then we'll start practice next week, definitely. If we think it may be an after Christmas bowl we might let them get healed up a little bit."
On The Injury Status Of DE Hunter Dimick
"It was and he just couldn't go. We think we'll have him for the bowl game whenever that is. It's not a series deal, we don't believe and there is nobody on this team that's tougher than Hunter Dimick. If he can go he will and he just couldn't go today. We were hopeful, we brought him on the trip, obviously to see if he could make some progress in the last 24 hours before the game and it wasn't the case. Next man up, got to find a way, we just got to keep finding ways."
On The Performance Of DE/LB Jason Fanaika
"I mean we moved him back to defensive end for the most of this game. He's a versatile guy, he's been playing linebacker and defensive end for us all year long and he made some big plays. The reverse was a big play, when we caught the guy in the backfield, I think he had a sack or two and he's a physical player and we got him another year, that's a good thing. He just learning our system this year. He's a junior with the transfer rule but we are excited to have him on our team and see what he can do next year."
On How He Feels After Many Close Games This Year
"Well I'm getting used to it. Seems like every week has come down to the last possession or even the last play at times. We're finding ways to win most of them and that's very encouraging, because the last couple years we were just the opposite of that. We were not finishing and finding ways to win those close games."
On The Scenarios Of The Pac-12 South yesterday
"Sure did. Everything happened that had to happen except us with Arizona. Arizona is a heck of a team, they'll have beaten Arizona State and the last three losses we've had have been by top 15 teams, I don't know where Arizona State will be ranked now that they lost, but it's been a tough schedule and it was a little bit irritating when I went through that, `That happened, that happened, that happened' but we didn't take care of business. Oh well life goes on, we got our eighth win today"
ON TOUCHDOWN -
"It was probably one of the most amazing feelings in my life, especially to do it at a time like that, a clutch moment, when we really needed it. I knew the defense had to step up and I just want to thank all of my teammates in believing in me. "
ON TEAM'S DEFENSE PERFORMANCE OVERALL -
"It wasn't our best day, we've definitely had better days but I still believe we are one of the toughest, most physical defenses in the Pac-12 and in the country, to be honest. Every dog has its day, we had an off first half, not even full day, went to the locker room and made minor adjustments, came out and did what we knew we could do; playing more physical in the box. We need we were going to run a little more man. The DB's had to step up; linebackers and defensive linemen they stepped up and got more physical, which I knew they do. The coaches knew they could. We just have to execute. We have to be reminded that we are the best defense in the Pac-12."
ON WINNING PAC-12 RECORD -
"It's great. Coming in from last year, I wasn't playing ball or anything. For me to be here this year is extremely blissful for me and playing with this great group of guys, my teammates and coaching staff; they all just boosted me up a lot."
ON PASSING GAME THOUGHTS -
"Travis [Wilson] threw the ball well today. He threw a couple passing to Kaelin [Clay] and Westlee [Tonga] wide open. Everybody was involved and when we have a great passing game, we have a good running game as well.
ON THE OFFENSE STEPPING UP TODAY-
"Once I knew we we're playing well, it was definitely our turn to play well for the defense. Our defense has played great so many games throughout the season so it was really our job on offense to play for them."
ON THIS GAME BEING A BACK AND FORTH BATTLE-
"We knew we were going to be in a dog fight. Colorado is a great team. Their record might not show it, but if you watch the video, you look at their games, they have been in a lot of close games. We felt that it would be a tough game."
ON WHAT WAS DIFFERENT IN THE SECOND HALF ON DEFENSE-
"We were just coming out here and showing who we are and how we do things here at Utah. That defense that we put on camera in the first half wasn't us. That's not how we do things here."
