Utah Swimming to Compete at Short Course Nationals

SALT LAKE CITY- Utah swimming will send nine swimmers to compete in the USA Short Course Nationals in Knoxville, Tennessee at the Allan Jones Aquatic Center on Dec 5-7. The athletes that will be participating, on the men's side, are Alex Fernandes, Jonas Holmstrom, Bence Kiraly, Kristian Kron, Nick Soedel, Ken Tiltges and on the women's side, Stina Colleou, Nicole Ligeza and Traycie Swartz.
"It is exciting to take nine swimmers to Knoxville this week for the USA Swimming Short Course Nationals!" Utah head coach Joe Dykstra said. "These swimmers have been tapering since the Mizzou Invite and we are hopeful to achieve some NCAA automatic qualifying times both individually and in the men's relays."
Several swimmers already have NCAA B standard times this year. Soedel has top 10 times in the NCAA in both the 50 free (fifth, 19.51) and 100 free (eighth, 43.39), while Kiraly's times are in the top 10 in the 500 free (eighth, 4:19.24) and 1650 free (ninth, 15:02.41). Kron has the 16th-best time nationally in the 400 IM (3:48.78) while his time of 1:44.05 in the 200 back is 19th in the NCAA. For the women, Swartz has times in the top 25 in both the 50 free (22.57) and the 100 free (49.04).
Utah has also been strong this season in the men's relays, with the 800 free relay team of Kron, Soedel, Kiraly and Holmstroem achieving the sixth-best time in the NCAA (6:27.65). Utah's time of 2:55.92 in the 400 free relay, swum by Holmstroem, Tiltges, Fernandes and Soedel, stands 13th in the NCAA this year.
The three-day meet will begin on Thursday, Dec. 5 startingwith preliminary sessions at 9 a.m. CT and final sessions beginning at 5 p.m. CT.

Utah in Latest Rankings
Both the Utah men and women's teams are ranked 15th in the latest CollegeSwimming.com poll, covering Nov. 4 through Dec. 1.
The Utah women have also been ranked in the latest College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll, coming in 22nd.
Next Time Out
The Short Course Nationals mark the final meet of 2013 for the Utes. Utah hosts Arizona State on Jan. 5, 2014.
