The Utah gymnastics team was picked to finish second to UCLA in the preseason Pac-12 Coaches' Poll, with the Bruins receiving 46 total points to Utah's 45. UCLA, ranked fourth in the national preseason poll, received five first-place votes in the conference poll, while Utah, picked to finish sixth nationally, gathered the remaining three first-place votes.
Stanford, another preseason top-10 team (No. 9), was picked to finish third in the Pac-12 with 37 points, followed by preseason No. 12 Oregon State (31 points).
All eight Pac-12 teams were ranked in the national preseason top 25 and the second half of the Pac-12 poll features No. 17 Arizona, No. 20 Washington, No. 22 California and No. 25 Arizona State.
Previous Pac-12 champions were UCLA, which edged Utah by five hundredths of a point for the 2012 title, and Oregon State in 2013. Back in action for the Utes is 2012 Pac-12 all-around champion Corrie Lothrop, who missed most of last season after tearing her Achilles in the fourth meet.
Utah opens its 2013 campaign on Jan. 11 against Brigham Young, Southern Utah and Boise State in the Huntsman Center. The Utes open Pac-12 play at California on Jan. 17 and their first home Pac-12 meet is against UCLA on Jan. 25.
