South Point Thanksgiving Shootout Notes
An extended stay in Las Vegas for the University of Utah women's basketball team continues with a pair of non-conference games at the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout. The Utes will play back-to-back games this weekend in the South Point Arena, starting against Butler on Friday, Nov. 29 at 5 p.m. PT before facing Marquette on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 2:30 p.m. PT.
The Utes have split the first four games of this season. They opened their season on Nov. 8 with a 73-56 win over Denver in Salt Lake City before dropping a 75-69 decision to No. 15/12 Nebraska on Nov. 15 in the Huntsman Center. In their first road game of the season, Utah suffered a 77-61 setback at Utah State on Nov. 19 before picking up its first road win of the season, 66-59, at UNLV on Tuesday.
Butler stands at 1-4 this season and finds itself on a four-game losing streak. The Bulldogs' lone win came in the season opener against Cleveland State on Nov. 8, 85-69. Marquette is off to a 4-1 start this season with its only blemish coming against No. 2 Duke last Saturday in Milwaukee. The Golden Eagles face Tennessee Tech on Friday at 2:30 p.m. PT.

Last Time Out: Utah earned a 66-59 win at UNLV on Tuesday in the Thomas & Mack Center. The Utes shot 52.0 from the field by converting on 26 of 52 field goal attempts, compared to a 41.8 mark (23-of-55) for UNLV. Utah also held a 33-26 edge in team rebounding over the Rebels, and also went 10-of-12 from the free throw line and UNLV was 9-of-14.
Primetime Plouffe: Senior forward Michelle Plouffe (Edmonton, Alberta) recently earned a spot on Naismith Trophy Early Season Watch List. Plouffe registered her third double-double in four games this season, and also the 37th of her career, Tuesday at UNLV. She had game-high marks with 26 points and 11 rebounds after nailing five of her first five field goal attempts to start the game, including her first two 3-pointers.
Plouffe leads the Pac-12 with 9.8 defensive rebounds per game and is second in the league in rebounds with 11.8 per game. In 34.5 minutes per game (which is eighth), Plouffe ranks sixth in scoring (20.3 points per game) and is tied for fifth in steals (2.3 per game). She is tied for 10th in the league in assists (3.5 per game). and tied for 14th in assist to turnover ratio (1.4, 14-10). Plouffe is tied for sixth in the Pac-12 with an .846 percentage from the free throw line (11-13) and is tied for eighth in 3-point field goal percentage (.462, 6-13).
Record-Setting Plouffe: With five first-half rebounds and 11 for the game, Plouffe became Utah's fourth all-time leading rebounder and now has 912 over her career. She is now 103 away from tying Kim (Smith) Gaucher (1,015 from 2002-06) for third place in school history. Plouffe owns the Utah school record with 690 defensive rebounds and is second in career blocks (130), fourth in rebounding average (8.44), and fifth in scoring average (15.3).
Give And Go: Early this season, Utah is second in the Pac-12 with a 1.3 assist-to-turnover ratio. The Utes have handed out 68 assists, while turning the ball over 54 times as a team.
Dunbar on the Drive: Guard Ciera Dunbar (Elko, Nev.) converted five of her six field goal attempts for a career-high 11 points on Tuesday at UNLV, which was also her second double-figure-point outing of the year. She was 1-of-2 from 3-point territory and handed out a pair of assists. Dunbar paces the Pac-12's individual standings with a 5.0 ratio (15-3) assist-to-turnover ratio early this season. Dunbar is eighth in the Pac-12 with 4.3 assists per game. She tied her career high with six assists at Utah State. Dunbar is shooting for a .538 percentage from the floor through four games this season with a 8.3 point-per-game average.
Dealing Dani: Sophomore guard Danielle Rodriguez (Downey, Calif.) leads the Pac-12 in assists per game and 3-point field goal percentage. Rodriguez has dished out 6.3 assists per game this season, which is 1.3 more than second-place Sydney Wiese of Oregon State. She also ranks sixth in the league with a .565 shooting percentage and is third on the team with 9.0 points per game.
