SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team continues its December home stretch against Idaho State on Tuesday, Dec. 6, at 7:00 p.m. MT in the Huntsman Center.
After defeating Weber State in its last game, 81-63, Utah head coach Anthony Levrets will be looking for a stronger defensive outing against the Bengals.
"This time of the year for us is all about improving our base defense," Levrets said. "Having played six games now, we have a pretty good idea of the areas that we need to improve on and we've really focused on addressing those things in practice the last couple days. We need to make sure we're better on Tuesday than we were in our last game and do all of the things that our base defense is about."
The Utes rank 35th in the NCAA and rank fourth in the Pac-12 in field-goal percentage (44.1). Utah is also fifth in the country in fewest turnovers per game (12.8).
Idaho State is 5-3 on the season, and the Bengals are coming off a 2-0 record at the Air Force Classic over the weekend. ISU defeated Big East member South Florida, 76-63 before defeating Jackson State, 47-36, at the tournament.
"They are a very good basketball team," Levrets said. "I have a lot of respect for Coach Sobolewski and his staff, and what they've done there. They just beat a Big East team, and anytime you've done that you're doing some things pretty well. They have a very solid group, and it's going to be a tough challenge on both ends of the floor."
Utah is 27-1 all-time record against Idaho State, but the lone loss came in last season's matchup, a 71-68 overtime game. The last two times the teams have played, the contest has gone into overtime. Utah won back in 2009, 66-50.
