Utah Head Coach Larry Krystkowiak
On the game
"I thought parts were very encouraging. We established an inside presence. Jason Washburn had a really nice game, he was very active. For the first time all year we faced a zone[defense], and I think that's because they had a hard time guarding us inside. But our offense came to standstill and we had some untimely turnovers. It was a five-point game in the second half, we got a big stop at other end, then had a 3-on-2 break and we threw the ball out of bounds. On the next possession they hit a 3-pointer and then that 12-0 spurt hit us. It's a fine line for team right now. We have to really take care of the basketball. There is not much margin for error and we just had too many breakdowns."
On the tournament as a whole
"This has been a tremendous experience since we got off bus here Tuesday night. I have never been this comfortable and welcomed in a foreign country...really in any place. The people really embraced us and we have built some lifetime friendships. This was a lifetime experience, and that's what college basketball is all about...young guys and giving them a chance to do something. I don't see a lot of kids on our team getting a chance to come and experience the Atlantis. Other than the three losses, this is a great memory. We have come closer together as team and I know from a coaching perspective it's like doing `two-a-days' or `three-a-days', when you're trying to pack a game in with a short turnaround time and prep time, it conditions our staff to be ready for the Pac-12. With Thursday-Saturday games, it will seem like an eternity between games after you go through something like this. This experience has got a lot of positives."
Are you a better team leaving the tournament than when you got here?
"No doubt. That will be our goal all season. We learned how to handle pressure vs. UMass, we learned to play some zone...I know our team is getting better all the time. Now it's important to get some `W's' to start feeling better about the work we're putting in. If we don't get `W's', it will be important for us to keep our focus and togetherness, and keep up the character building stuff we have talked about, which is important because [this process] is never easy."
