WALNUT CREEK, Calif.--
The Pac-12 Conference office announced the 2011 All-Academic Football Team today and five of the 25 first-team selections were from Utah. The Utes also placed one player on the second team and another eight earned honorable mention honors. To be eligible for selection to the Pac-12 academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average and be either a starter or significant substitute.
Making the first-team from Utah were junior wide receiver Luke Matthews (3.66/mass communication), junior offensive lineman Tevita Stevens (3.52/Spanish), senior defensive lineman Derrick Shelby (3.25/sociology), senior linebacker J.J. Williams (3.42/economics) and junior punter Sean Sellwood (3.78/exercise and sport science). Making the second team was senior linebacker Matt Martinez (3.09/sociology).
Honorable mention selections were not limited to one per position. Honorable mention recipients from Utah included: receiver Dres Anderson, safety Greg Bird, safety Brian Blechen, defensive back Mike Honeycutt, kicker/punter Nick Marsh, running back Thretton Palamo, tight end Dallin Rogers and receiver Kenneth Scott.
