SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team begins a four-game road swing this week with games at Michigan and Arkansas. The Utes will take on Michigan on Thursday, Nov. 17, at 6:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. MT, while facing Arkansas on Sunday, Nov. 20, at 1:00 p.m. CT/Noon MT.
"This week is going to be a huge challenge for us," Utah head coach Anthony Levrets said. "We scheduled the toughest trip we could possibly find to help prepare us for the upcoming Pac-12 season. We will be competing against two very good basketball teams from two powerhouse conferences. Both programs are very well coached and have really good players. Their systems are completely different from one another, and it will challenge our young team, going from one game to the next with a short turnaround."
Michigan opened its season with a 69-66 victory over Florida. The Wolverines were down one with 2:03 left before going on a six-point run to take the lead. Michigan takes on Florida Atlantic on Monday before hosting the Utes on Thursday. Thursday's game is the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
Arkansas is 2-1 on the season after playing three games at the WBI Tip Off Classic to start the year. Included in those wins was a victory over 13th-ranked Florida State. The Razorbacks host Texas-Arlington on Wednesday before playing the Utes on Sunday. Utah is 1-1 all-time against Arkansas. The two teams met last season with the Razorbacks defeating the Utes in Salt Lake City, 65-54.
Utah opened its season with a 74-60 win over Southern Utah on Sunday. The Utes were led by a double-double from Michelle Plouffe and 20 points from Taryn Wicijowski, Utah made a second-half rally after being down at halftime, 30-28.
"I was very pleased with our performance against Southern Utah," Levrets said. "With four usual starters not playing due to team reasons or fouls, our young players had a ton of game experience early in the season. We were able to pull out a win while learning a lot about ourselves."
