PARK CITY - Junior Torjus Krogdahl took fourth place in the men's slalom race to help the University of Utah alpine ski team start the season on a high note with a second-place finish at the 2011 Utah Invitational Sunday at the Park City Mountain Resort.
"Today was an excellent display of team skiing," Director of Utah Skiing Kevin Sweeney said. "I am very happy with the team score we put up for both men and women as well as for the overall weekend. We opened the season as I had hoped with excellent individual NCAA qualifying points as well a confidence-building team score. It was a fun day on the hill for the Skiin' Utes."
The Utes turned three top-10 finishes in the men's slalom race as Krogdahl clocked a time of 1:40.82 to post Utah's highest finish of the day. Ryan Wilson followed in sixth place with a time of 1:41.55, while Eian Sandvik took 10th with a time of 1:42.32. Nick Cohee also competed and turned in a time of 1:43.93) for 19th place.
For the women's race, Anna Kocken and Eva Huckova tied for fifth place at 1:28.86. The pair was followed immediately by Tii-Maria Romar, who took seventh place at 1:29.61. Jaime Dupratt placed 28th (1:43.64) while Sofia Smith was 29th (1:47.23).
Colorado is in first place in the team standings with 444 team points, only nine ahead of the Utes.
Utah's next event will be the RMISA Alpine Qualifier on Friday in Big Sky, Mont., followed by the Montana State Invitational on Saturday and Sunday.
The University of Utah Invitational will continue with the nordic race Jan. 21-22 at Soldier Hollow.
