THIS WEEK
For the University of Utah's Homecoming weekend, Utah Swimming and Diving Alumni will return to compete against the current Utah swim team for the third consecutive year. The meet will begin Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Ute Natatorium.
"This is a great opportunity for the current Utes to get a feel for the tradition and history behind the team they are on, and is also a way for former Utah swimmers to stay acquainted with the program," head coach Greg Winslow stated.
LAST WEEK
Last weekend, the Utah women's swimming and diving team traveled to Albuquerque, N.M., to face off against New Mexico. The Utes netted the win by a score of 236 to 228. Although New Mexico divers won the top spots in the diving portion of the meet, Utah won every relay event against the Lobos.
Impressive performances from all of the Utah swimmers contributed to their victory, including Natalie Edge, Kayla Buck, Kristina Evans, Hannah Caron, Samantha Zuch, and Traycie Swartz. Edge assisted in the wins of four of the 10 relays. Buck also helped the 3x500 free relay (15:45.74) and the 400 individual medley (4:04.96) relay take first place. Caron and Swartz were also on the winning 400 individual medley relay, while Zuch was on the 3x500 free relay with Buck. Edge, Evans, Zuch, and Swartz were on the final winning 400 free relay (3:34.98), where Utah took the top four spots to ensure a winning score.
"New Mexico wasn't going to quit, but our girls didn't quit either. All 16 girls had to step up during our final relay even after winning five or six events. I'm very proud of what they achieved," Winslow said following the meet.
UPCOMING
On Oct. 7, Utah will travel to Provo for the BYU Freshmen/Sophomore meet. The meet will start at 6 p.m. The Mesa State Invitational in Grand Junction, Colo., on Oct. 8-9 will see the whole Utah team in action.
