STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, Colo. - The Utah ski team traveled to Steamboat Springs, Colo., to begin preparations for the 2010 NCAA Championships, which begin on Wednesday, March 10.
Action gets underway on Wednesday with the alpine giant slalom races before switching to Nordic on Thursday for the 5- and 10-km classical races. The slalom runs will be held on Friday, March 12 before the championship meet ends with the 15- and 20-km freestyle Nordic races on Saturday.
Director of Skiing Eli Brown talks below about Utah's first few days in Steamboat:
Things are good. Everyone is settled in and getting psyched for the competitions to start. They have so much energy! On Sunday the Nordic team did their last all-out intervals of the year. The pace was extremely tough. They looked good. The alpine team had a big day with slalom training in the morning and GS in the afternoon, timing it just perfect before the wind and snow started. Now alpine is resting and doing light dry land training and Nordic is skiing easy and starting to test skis.
The staff is also working hard, doing a lot of organizing, attending meetings and equipment prep and adjusting. We will do a tremendous amount of wax and structure testing in the next few days. The weather is a spring-like freeze-thaw and they are calling for a chance of precipitation.
