LAS VEGAS - Taryn Wicijowski led Utah with 19 points as the Utah women's basketball team lost an overtime heartbreaker in the Mountain West Tournament championship game, 70-60 on Friday afternoon.
Utah struggled at the onset, going down nine points, 13-4, before putting together a 15-3 run to take a three-point lead, 19-16 with 9:29 left in the first half. Kalee Whipple put the Utes up by a point at halftime, 34-33, with a long-range three-pointer.
The lead continued to go back-and-fourth in the second half. With San Diego State holding a one-point lead, 48-47 after a Paris Johnson layup, Janita Badon made her own layup at the other end of the floor seconds later to start a 9-0 run for the Utes over the next four minutes to go up 56-48 with 4:00 left.
Utah's shooting went cold in the final minutes, as the Aztecs closed out the half on an 8-2 run, tying the game at 58-58 after regulation.
Badon's two free throws were Utah's only points of the overtime period.
Wicijowski and Whipple, who had 15 points, were both named to the all-tournament team. Halie Sawyer had a team-high 15 rebounds.
Utah's postseason fate will be determined on Monday evening.
