I feel that we are definitely picking up momentum right now and we are playing really well. I think that Kalee and Halie have been a big help because they can both step up. Together they are the key that keeps all of us working together.
I remember the last time we played [SDSU], I got blocked several times and had trouble getting the ball through two defenders who are 6'3" and 6'4", and so this time I had the mentality that I had to go up strong, elbows out and be the one to make the contact versus taking the contact.
In the second half, I think that we had a sense of urgency. Coach told us at halftime that we needed to be more precise and have more energy on offense. I think that in the first half we were slow and needed to cut and screen harder, which is what we did in the second half.
I think that we need to continue to defend during the rest of the season. I think that our defense is keeping us in most of our games and I think that if we can detain people from scoring their average numbers we can be successful. We also need to continue rebounding offensively and defensively.
Head Coach Elaine Elliott
Tonight was a very good win for us and it was our first quality home win. Our offense is better and we have done a better job with getting contributions off of the bench. Halie is hurting people for the double teams and the fact that they aren't defending her has been a huge difference for our team on the offensive end. She has been playing very well and we just defended tough tonight and we battled.
I feel that we are just getting better and doing more things right. Taryn is very physical and isn't afraid to go up in a crowd. She's tough and she will never back down or quit, which is key in being a very good player.
