Game Notes- Game 10 vs. Boise State
SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah men's basketball team (6-3) looks to get back in the win column Friday as it hosts Boise State (6-3). Tip-off from the Jon M. Huntsman Center is slated for 7 p.m.
Utah enters the matchup after seeing its three-game win streak snapped at Michigan last week. The Utes' leading scorer in the loss was senior forward Jay Watkins, who poured in 17 points to go with seven rebounds. Junior wing Will Clyburn added 11 points and a game-high eight rebounds, while junior guard Josh Watkins tallied five assists to lead the Utes.
Clyburn remains Utah's leading scorer and rebounder at 19.2 points and 9.0 rebounds per game, ranking No. 2 in the MWC in each category. Josh Watkins is also chipping in 15.1 points per game and leads the Utes with 3.9 assists per contest, ranking among the top 10 in the league in each discipline.
Boise State began the season with six consecutive wins but has since lost three straight, all by three-point margins. The Broncos lost at home to Long Beach State, 69-66, at UNLV, 75-72, and at Drake, 72-69.
The Broncos' leading scorer and rebounder is Robert Arnold at 17.1 points and 5.3 boards per contest. La'Shard Anderson leads the team in assists at 4.6 per game and shares the team lead in steals with Westly Perryman at 2.3 per outing.
A precursor to the two schools matching up in the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas later this month, Utah and Boise State will meet on the hardcourt for just the fourth time. The Runnin' Utes own a 2-1 lead in the series, with their last meeting coming in 2001. Utah won that contest, 64-49, at the Huntsman Center.
Utah is 5-1 at home this season, while Boise State is 3-2 on the road.
Utah head coach Jim Boylen, now in his fourth year at the helm for the Utes, owns a 62-45 (.579) record. Boise State is coached by Leon Rice, in his first year at the helm.
