SALT LAKE CITY - After playing five of its first six games away from Utah, the women's basketball team begins a four-game homestand against future Pac-12 foe Washington on Wednesday, Dec. 1, at 7:00 p.m. in the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Radio is available at ESPN 700 with play-by-play from Rick Bouillon.
Utah is coming off a 1-2 outing at the Caribbean Challenge in Cancun, Mexico, defeating Hartford and falling to Penn State and 23rd-ranked Green Bay. Janita Badon was named to the All-Tournament team after averaging 13 points and 5.7 rebounds during the tournament.
Utah is learning to play without preseason all-conference forward Taryn Wicijowski, who is out for the season after tearing her ACL early last week. The Utes are ranked second in the MWC in scoring defense, holding teams to 56 points per game. Five of Utah's six games this year have been decided by 12 points or less, but the Utes have struggled with turnovers. Badon leads the MWC in steals per game (3.0).
Washington is 2-2 with wins against Portland State and San Jose State, while falling to BYU and Kent State. The Huskies will have had a week to prepare for the Utes, with their last game coming on Nov. 24.
Utah freshman Michelle Plouffe's older sister Andrea played for Washington from 2004-08.
The all-time series against Washington is tied, 4-4. The teams have set up occasional home-and-home series, with the last coming in 2004 and 2005. Utah has won all four meetings in Salt Lake City.
