SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team returns to the state of Utah after its season-opening victory against SMU to face in-state rival Weber State on Tuesday, Nov. 16. Janita Badon drained a jumper from the free-throw line with 4.2 seconds left to give the Utah women's basketball team a 44-43 victory over SMU on Friday to open the year. Badon, who went 7-of-10 from the floor, had a game-high 15 points. Michelle Plouffe had a double-double with 11 points and 11 boards in her collegiate debut.
Badon was selected as the MWC Player of the Week for her efforts against the Mustangs.
Weber State opened its season with a 59-50 road victory over San Jose State on Friday, Nov. 12. Caitlin Anderson had 13 points and four rebounds to lead the Wildcats. Weber State was 9-20 last year and picked to finish ninth in the Big Sky.
Utah leads the overall series with Weber State, 42-6. The Wildcats pulled out a 65-63 win in 2008, Utah's last trip to Ogden, but the Utes came back in 2009 for a 56-41 win in Salt Lake City.
