Utah Head Coach Jim Boylen:
"I'm thankful for the win. I've said all along we have to do it with defense, and I really feel that this team has made strides defensively. We've worked and worked and we're starting to carry it to the floor. With one senior, two freshmen and two sophomores starting it was a little scary. I'm proud of this group. We're getting better and we're starting to trust. Our defense has been good enough to where our offense comes around. We put Jace Tavita in a couple of weeks ago because we needed a stopper. He holds Ronnie Moss to about eight points under his average. That's what we've done in this program, that's what [Lawrence] Borha did and we're starting to groom another stopper which I think is important for our program.
"It is just one win, but it's a big win for us. Every league win in this conference is huge. You have to defend your home court and then go on the road and try to scrap a couple out."
"Our guys were locked in all week. Our ball pressure and ability to guard shooters -when TCU wins they make over nine threes a game, when they lose they make around six- so our goal was to keep them under six and they made four. That started our preparation: high early shot challenges and push them into twos. I thought they did a lot of dribbling and I thought we did a lot of guarding which wore us down in the first half. Two of the four guys that made threes don't usually make them."
"I think [ten straight league wins at home] is great. You have to protect your home court in the league. I like the way they did it with defense and toughness."
Senior Guard Luka Drca:
"Our defense was amazing. We had a pretty good scouting so we brought it onto the floor and it worked out."
"I don't force my shots. I didn't have the ball in my hands that much in the first half, but I missed both of my shots unfortunately. In the second half I came out ready to shoot the ball and I had it more, so I made most of them."
Junior Forward Jay Watkins:
"Proper preparation prevents poor performance. We have to give it to the coaches and their scouting report. They got us ready. To the team too, we were focused at practice all week and had a great shoot around today."
"Getting back after last week was great. My teammates were looking out for me. I made a few shots early and made my free throws. I just played another game like I always play; didn't try to do anything different or special. I felt like he [dad] was watching over me in the game. It felt good to be out there with my teammates again."
Sophomore Guard Jace Tavita:
"I think we were really focused in the game plan. It was simple: play hard and play our defense. I think we did that today. We need someone out there that can be the stopper and my man [Moss] averages 15 points a game and today he only had seven, so I feel like I did a really good job. I'll do whatever I have to do to help my team win."
Freshman Guard Shawn Glover:
"It was new to have a start, but Kim is on the injured list so I had to step up. I've been practicing every day at both spots [three and four] so I knew what to do."
TCU Head Coach Jim Christian:
"We didn't do anything to give ourselves enough to win a basketball game. We cut it to five, scored on our first possession in the second half and then we didn't do anything that got us back in to the game. We didn't give ourselves a chance to do anything to get back in the game and they took advantage of that."
"They [Utah] are a good basketball team and their shots got hot at home and they made their plays. We didn't take good shots and we weren't patient enough to make them work for anything. It was just a really bad second half performance for us."
"I think what happened was that they [Utah] played the game the right way and we didn't. It was a very unselfish game, we didn't play very unselfish at all today."
"It's a big factor [to have Foster and Washburn down low] because they take away the front of the rim, block shots and make it hard to drive the ball. We needed to take open shots and we can't expect to win a game shooting the way we did today."
