The governing body of the NCAA women's gymnastics coaches has cited six Ute gymnasts as Scholastic All-Americans for the 2009 season. As a team, the Utes finished No. 18 in the academic rankings released by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches for Women (NACGC/W). Utah's team grade point average for the 2008-09 academic year was 3.415.
Earning recognition as NACGC/W Scholastic All-Americans were: Daria Bijak (3.87, film studies), Jamie Deetscreek (3.84, elementary education), Kristina Baskett (3.79, communication/electronic journalism), Beth Rizzo (3.66, exercise and sport science), Stephanie McAllister (3.59, undeclared) and Jacquelyn Johnson (3.50, exercise and sport science).
The NACGC awards are the latest academic kudos for the Ute gymnastics team, which boasted a first-team ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American in Baskett and an ESPN The Magazine second-team academic all-district selection in Bijak. In addition, the Utes had five Mountain West Conference Scholar Athletes and placed 10 on the Athletic Director's Honor Roll for spring semester (Baskett, Cortni Beers, Bijak, Deetscreek, Annie DiLuzio, Johnson, Gael Mackie, McAllister, Rizzo and Kyndal Robarts).
