SALT LAKE CITY - Utah freshman Taryn Wicijowski has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week for Monday, Dec. 7.
Wicijowski led the Utes to a 2-1 record last week, averaging 15.0 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. The Regina, Sask., Canada, native recorded her second double-double of the season in a 56-41 win against Weber State, with 14 rebounds and 16 points on 80 percent shooting (8-of-10). Against Idaho State, Wicijowski scored 12 of her 14 points in the second half to help Utah recover from a halftime deficit and win, 66-50, in overtime. She went 6-for-8 (.750) from the field vs. the Bengals and 2-for-3 (.667) from the free-throw line. Wicijowski went on to add 15 points and seven rebounds for the Utes during a 60-55 road loss at No. 25 Louisville, making 67 percent of her shots from the floor (6-of-9).
It is Wicijowski's first career player of the week honor. She is averaging 13.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game for the season and has started in all eight games for the Utes.
The Utes (4-4) slow down for the next two weeks as they reach the end of the semester to play just two games, both at home, taking on in-state NAIA rival Westminster on Saturday, Dec. 12, before South Dakota State comes in on Dec. 19.
