SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's basketball team (5-4) looks to pick up its third straight win Saturday as Big 12 Conference foe Oklahoma (6-3) comes to the Jon M. Huntsman Center for a 2 p.m. MT tipoff. The game will be televised live nationally on the VERSUS Network.
Utah is 1-2 all-time against Oklahoma, while this year's game marks the first-ever meeting in Salt Lake City. The Runnin' Utes and the Sooners met in Norman, Okla., last year, where then-No. 5 ranked OU captured a 70-52 win. Utah's only victory against Oklahoma came in the 2005 NCAA Tournament as the Utes took a 67-58 victory in the second round in Tucson, Ariz.
Utah is coming off a 68-52 victory against Michigan last Wednesday and is looking to win its third straight. Freshman guard Marshall Henderson (Hurst, Texas) scored a career-high 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting. Junior guard Carlon Brown (Riverside, Calif.) scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half and led the game with eight rebounds, while sophomore center David Foster (Lake Forest, Calif.) blocked five shots and chipped in 10 points. Senior guard Luka Drca (Belgrade, Serbia) added 11 points and a game-high six assists.
The Sooners are riding a four-game win streak, including an 86-62 home win against Centenary last Wednesday. Tony Crocker logged a double-double with 33 points (11-19 FG, 7-12 3FG) and 13 rebounds. Tiny Gallon also registered a double-double with 16 points and 15 rebounds.
Brown is Utah's top scorer on the year, averaging 12.7 points per game to go with 5.7 boards. The Utes are led on the glass by senior forward Kim Tillie (Cagnes-sur-Mer, France) at 6.6 per game, while Drca is the Utes' top assist man, averaging 4.3 helpers per game.
Oklahoma's top scorer is Willie Warren at 18.6 points per game, while Gallon averages 10.1 rebounds per contest. Tommy Mason-Griffin leads the team with 5.2 helpers per game.
Utah head coach Jim Boylen is in his third season at the helm and holds a 47-29 (.618) record. Oklahoma is coached by Jeff Capel, now in his fourth year, with a 75-36 (.676) mark.
