SALT LAKE CITY--Twelve Utah football players earned 2009 all-Mountain West Conference honors and six were named to the first team, the MWC office announced today. The team was voted on by the nine conference coaches and a media panel.
Utah's first-team selections include senior offensive tackle Zane Beadles, senior receiver David Reed, junior running back Eddie Wide, senior defensive end Koa Misi, senior linebacker Stevenson Sylvester and senior defensive back Robert Johnson.
Beadles is a repeat first-team selection, after making the second team in 2007, while Misi and Sylvester were both second-team all-MWC choices a year ago. Johnson won honorable mention acclaim in 2007 and Reed was an honorable mention specialist in 2008. This is Reed's first appearance on the all-league team as a receiver and Wide is a first-time honoree.
Earning second-team recognition were junior offensive linemen Zane Taylor and Caleb Schlauderaff. Taylor was honorable mention a year ago, while Schlauderaff picks up his first MWC award.
Earning honorable mention recognition were senior linebacker Mike Wright (his second year on the honorable mention team), junior kicker Joe Phillips, freshman punter Sean Sellwood and sophomore defensive tackle Sealver Siliga.
