Utah vs. Oklahoma State Game Notes
LAS VEGAS - The University of Utah men's basketball team (3-2) takes on Oklahoma State (5-0) for the HoopTV Las Vegas Invitational championship Saturday. Tipoff is slated for 7:30 p.m. PT at the Orleans Arena. Fans can watch the broadcast of tonight's game for free on the internet at www.HoopTV.net.
Utah is 3-1 all-time against Oklahoma State, including a win in their last meeting nearly 29 years ago, as the Runnin' Utes captured an 89-73 victory in Salt Lake City. Utah is coming off of a thrilling 60-58 comeback victory against No. 20-ranked Illinois. Freshman guard Shawn Glover (Cedar Hill, Texas) hit a buzzer-beating floater to lift the Utes to their third top-25 win under head coach Jim Boylen. Overcoming a 16-point halftime deficit, it was also the Utes' biggest comeback win under Boylen. Senior guard Luka Drca (Belgrade, Serbia) led the team with 16 points.
Utah's top offensive threat is junior guard Carlon Brown (Riverside, Calif.), averaging 15.0 points per game to go with 6.0 boards per contest. He came one point and one rebound shy of his third career double-double, tallying nine of each against Illinois. The Utes' top rebounder is senior forward Kim Tillie (Cagnes-sur-Mer, France), averaging 6.6 per game, while chipping in 9.0 points. Drca is the Utes' top assist man, averaging 5.0 helpers per game.
Oklahoma State's top scorer is James Anderson, pouring in 22.2 points per game. The Cowboys' top rebounder is Marshall Moses, pulling down 9.8 boards per contest, while Obi Muonelo leads them in assists with 3.4 per game.
Boylen is in his third at the helm for Utah and holds a 45-27 (.625) record. OSU is coached by Travis Ford, now in his second year, with a 28-12 (.700) record.
The Runnin' Utes have been extremely successful in its recent trips to Las Vegas, where they also captured the 2009 MWC Tournament championship.
Utah will be playing to win its second consecutive fall tournament after capturing the 2008 Glenn Wilkes Classic in Daytona Beach, Fla.
