Utes Take on UCLA at JHG Jam

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah women's basketball team plays in their first tournament of the season on Saturday, Nov. 21, taking on UCLA as part of the JHG Jam, hosted by San Diego State. The game will air live on the Mtn. at 9:30 p.m. MT and a radio feed is available at KALL 700.
Utah picked up its first victory of the season in its last game with a 60-59 win over Minnesota on Tuesday, Nov. 17. Taryn Wicijowski had her first career double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds. Kalee Whipple led the Utes with 17 points while Janita Badon had a career-high 14 points. Although Utah held a slim lead through the entire second half, Minnesota stayed just within reach to keep the score close. The Utes prevailed with tough defense and timely shooting in the end.
UCLA is 1-1 this season after dropping their season opener against Illinois State before beating Santa Clara on the second day of the Iowa Challenge. Erica Tukiainen is averaging 14.2 points in the first two games while Markel Walker has a team-high 9.0 rebounds per game. The Bruins play Hawaii on Thursday, Nov. 19, before playing Utah on Saturday.
Utah leads the all-time series against UCLA, 3-1. The last time the two teams met was in 2001, a Ute victory.
