SALT LAKE CITY - Incoming swimmers Whitney Lopus and Hannah Caron will compete at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials, held June 29 through July 6 in Omaha, Nebraska.
Lopus will be competing in the 100 and 200 fly, the 100, 200 and 400 free, as well as the 200 IM. Caron will compete in the 100 fly and 200 IM.
"We are excited to have the University of Utah represented at the team trials," head coach Greg Winslow said. "These freshmen will make an impact at not only the trials, but in future Mountain West Conference and NCAA meets. One of their goals for this meet is to get experience. As these women will be graduating from Utah, it will be time for the 2012 Olympics in London. It's our goal to get all of our graduating class to the Olympic Trials by senior year.
"Next week should be exciting and we wish them the best of luck."
Lopus is seeded 19th in both the 100 and 200 fly events. Caron is seeded in the top 100 in both of her events. The women highlight an incoming class that is ranked 13th in the nation by CollegeSwimming.com
The maximum team size is 26 male and 26 female athletes. Athletes will be selected to the team based on the order of finish in their various events.
