BOZEMAN, Mont. - Chirine Njeim led all Utes in the giant slalom in the NCAA Western qualifying race, hosted by Montana State and held at the Bridger Bowl.
Njeim finished fifth with a time of 1:36.74. Mikaela Grassl was also in the top 10 with a ninth-place finish in 1:38.06.
The men placed four in the top 10 in the GS, led by Thomas Zumbrunn's sixth-place finish in 1:40.41. Kyle Kung finished seventh in 1:40.46, while Scott Veenis (1:40.69) and Tague Thorson (1:40.73) placed ninth and 10th, respectively.
"Today was low key," Director of Skiing Eli Brown said. "We have our game faces on for regionals and today was a dress rehearsal. Skiing well and getting experience on the NCAA hill and course was our focus."
The extra qualifying races were held due to poor ski conditions during other events and to give the Western teams the same number of qualifying races as the Eastern teams.
The Ute alpine team continues at the Bridger Bowl with the NCAA Western Regional on Friday, Feb. 23, while the Nordic team competes at Bohart Ranch.
