SALT LAKE CITY -
Tickets went on sale today for the 2008 Utah gymnastics season and fans are in for a treat with the home schedule. The Utes, who placed second at the NCAA Championships less than two months ago, will host three-time defending champion Georgia in their season opener on Jan. 11. A week later, Utah welcomes yet another NCAA Super Six finalist in Nebraska on Jan. 18.
Utah is the highest drawing gymnastics team in the nation and has averaged over 10,700 spectators a meet in the Huntsman Center since 1992. Utah won its 23rd attendance title in 26 years last season by averaging 11,297 fans to its six home meets.
Other teams on Utah's 2008 home schedule include Minnesota on Feb. 1, Utah State and Southern Utah on Feb. 22, Oregon State on Mar. 7 and BYU on Mar. 28. Tickets for all six home meets start for as little as $20 for season general admission tickets and $30 for season reserved seats. Tickets for the 2008 Utah gymnastics season can be purchased by phone (801-581-UTIX), at the Rice-Eccles Stadium box office and online at Utahtickets.com.
Utah, which has finished second at the last two NCAA Championships, returns all but one gymnast from last year's team. Among the returners is 2007 NCAA balance beam champion - and two-time NCAA all-around runner-up - Ashley Postell. Postell, a former World Champion on the balance beam, will enter her senior year as a 15-time All-American. Also back is junior-to-be Kristina Baskett - the 2006 NCAA uneven bars champion. All-Americans as freshmen last season were Annie DiLuzio (who finished second in the nation on the vault), Beth Rizzo and Daria Bijak.
