Utah-Montana WNIT First Round Quotes
Utah Head Coach Elaine Elliott
"I was completely expecting a good team (in Montana). You don't win 27 games anywhere in this country without being very good. I knew they could score from any position and wereaveraging 77 points a night. That's always a concern, so this is a good win.
"This was great for this team. They're excited and its great to see them to have a chance to keep playing. The better thing for us is we gave a better effort, intensity-wise, defensively. We finally decided to put a little pressure on the ball and get in front of the post a little bit instead of standing behind. That was probably the biggest difference and got them out of rhythm a little bit."
Utah Junior Marie Warner
"We started to feel it after getting some shots to fall down the stretch and it turned out well for us. Montana is a good team and its expected for them to get ahead early. We just have to be on our toes at all times, because it's always going to be a game with a team like Montana."
Utah Sophomore Morgan Warburton
"Elaine was telling us we had to start playing as a team to beat Montana, because we weren't going to beat them in a scoring battle. They're a great team at 27-3, so she told us we needed to play as a team to get our shots.
"I don't know anything about Illinois yet. I'm just really excited to go play them. It's going to be a great opportunity for us."
Montana Head Coach Robin Selvig
"We led most the game and played really well for a long time, but we just couldn't make a shot in the second half. We got a lot of good looks, but it just seemed like we hit a point where we didn't defend well for about 10 minutes and that did us in tonight.
"All of the sudden Utah just got lay-ups on us. It's one of those things where we were worn out in the second half. It just didn't happen for us tonight. The game went down to the wire and Utah doesn't lose a lot of games at home.
"If it was a 30-minute game we would have won. Unfortunately it's a 40-minute game and we couldn't sustain our lead."
