Utah's Beaman Garners MWC Weekly Honor

University of Utah freshman Garret Beaman was named Mountain West Conference Men's Swimmer of the Week on Thursday. Beaman, a native of Kingwood, Texas, won three events against Denver in the Utes first dual meet of the season last Saturday.
The meet with the Pioneers served as Beaman's first collegiate dual meet and he showed that he will be a force in the conference and the nation for years to come. Beaman not only won three events, but also placed second in another as the Ute men opened the season. He won the 50 freestyle with a time of 21.46 and followed up with a victory in the 100 free in a time of 46.13. Beaman was also on the Utes 400 freestyle relay team that tied for the win with a time of 3:06.05. He added a second-place finish in the 100 backstroke (51.00).
The Ute men will be in action again on Nov. 9 when they travel to Arizona State. Both the men and women will host UNLV on Nov. 10, at the Ute Natatorium.
