THIS WEEK:
Utah's men's swimming and diving team will travel to West Lafayette, Ind. for the Purdue Invitational. The Invitational will include Utah, Georgia, Louisville, Penn State and host Purdue. The meet will be at 6:00 p.m. ET, on Friday, November 10. On Saturday, November 11, the women's team will be in action in San Diego, Calif., as they visit conference foe San Diego State. The meet will be at noon PT, and is the second conference meet of the season for the women's team.
UTE NOTES:
Utah's women are off to a 3-0 start on the season, including 1-0 in conference match-ups after a win at UNLV. The Utes beat the Rebels 142-120, in a meet that came down to the last event, where they were able to pull out the victory. The team was led by strong performances from Alison McInturff and Amber Walter each winning three events. The victory over UNLV gave Head Coach Michael Litzinger his 100th career victory in his women's coaching career, 47 of which have come in his tenure at Utah. Over the last three seasons the Ute women have gone 27-3.
On the men's side, Utah sits at 2-1 (0-1 in MWC competition). The Utes suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of UNLV in a 166-115 loss last Saturday. The Ute men have been honored with a MWC Swimmer of the Week in Adam Oliver for performance against Denver. The following week, Andrew Jones was honored as MWC Diver of the Week for his efforts against UC San Diego.
WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
The Purdue Invitational will count as four separate dual meets for the men's team. The meet will put Utah up against some of the strongest teams in the nation. Georgia is in the top five in the nation, while Penn State and Purdue are in the top 25.
San Diego State will be looking to avenge a loss last season to the Ute women. Last season Utah beat the Aztecs 140-95 in Salt Lake City. The Aztecs are 4-2 (1-2 in MWC competition) going into the meet with the Utes.
QUOTE FROM HEAD COACH Michael Litzinger:
"The Purdue Invitational will be an interesting meet four our guys. It is four dual meets against competition that we don't normally get to see. It should be a great chance for our team to see good national competition and it will be a good challenge for us."
"The women's meet with San Diego State is always a good meet for us. They are very well coached and traditionally give us very good races. It should be an exciting meet for us."
