SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah ski team's third-place finish at the NCAA Championships this season wasn't the end of it success in 2005. The skiin' Utes also rallied to record an excellent showing in the classroom.
The Utes saw 17 of their skiers land on the school's Academic Honor Roll while another five of them were honored on the Dean's List.
"The team really came together on all fronts this spring," veteran head coach Kevin Sweeney said. "To mirror our exciting podium third-place finish at the NCAA Championships, we also had outstanding academic success this semester. I'm proud of how hard everyone focused on academics during the season. We finished up strong and that is what is important. It's exciting to see the impressive GPA's and Honor Roll lists."
Jess Kiesel led all skiers and was named to the Dean's List with a perfect 4.00 grade-point average. Also named to the Dean's List from the men's squad were Toni Bozzio and Ben Thornhill.
The women were led by Anna Sprague and her 3.79 grade-point average. April Mancuso was the only other women's skier named to the Dean's List.
Named to the Academic Honor Roll were men's skiers Will McDonald, Casey Simons, and Gaspar Perricone. The women named to the honor roll were Bowena Bright, Sandra Gredig, Barbro Hatlevik, Lina Johansson, Ashley McQueen, Nicole Naef, Linda Pettersson, Elisha Stephens and Kim Stephens.
The Academic Honor Roll requires a 3.0 grade-point average over nine graded credit hours while the Dean's List requirements are a 3.5 or higher over 12 graded credit hours.
