Head coach Elaine Elliott on the team's defense and upcoming road trip
"We are a little more aggressive this year with defense. We have always tried to play good defense, but there are a lot of different ways to do that. I have never been a believer that you only do it one particular way; you do what you can do best. We are a little deeper and I feel like we have enough experience that we can ask them to do a few more things -- a little zone and a little trapping. Our depth is definitely a plus. We are 10 deep and we want to play that number. We will be led by Kim (Smith) and Shona (Thorburn), but the ability of the other girls to do a better job this year complementing our depth, will really be able show that. The two Pac-10 teams next week are on the road, and it doesn't get any tougher than that. So it will be a good test for us and a good chance to see where we are and what we need to work on."
Heidi Carlsen on her shooting
"I've just been putting in extra practice and making sure I am shot-ready every time. If I will just be coming off of the bench, I hope to bring a little fire on the court and make everybody pick it up a little bit."
Kim Smith on the team's defense
"It has been a focus this year in the preseason, being a young team, to set our tone defensively. I think that's what we did tonight. We are really getting our into the gaps and trying to get a few more steals this year. I think we had a good start to that tonight."
