Utah Head Coach Rich Manning
On playing BYU - "These are the kind of games we prepare for and train for. It's really a privilege to be a part of this rivalry, and for these soccer players to play in this environment. It's just a special occasion. I was really proud that the girls performed well under those circumstances."
On BYU's spurt to start the game - "The first 20 minutes [BYU] came out with fire in their eyes. Being able to hang in there and not give up a goal in those first 20 minutes, I felt like the last portion of the first half we were able to settle down and do some of the things we wanted to do. That's understandable for them to have a lot of emotion in front of the crowd here, and I think that was an important part of the game."
On coming back after getting a goal down - "I think every time you do that it builds confidence and a mental toughness in your team. We were in the same position against San Diego State last week and came back with two (goals) and won the game. I think the kids learned from that."
On Amanda Feigt's goal - "Amanda always seems to score against this team. She gets up for these games and she does well. We've scored two or three other goals like that where Adele (Letro) has fed Amanda. Our second goal against New Mexico was the same exact goal. They've reversed roles a couple times, as well. It's just a basic pattern where if you can get the ball and start dribbling in, then slip it to the runner behind the defense. With Adele and Amanda's speed, they are both very good at that."
Utah Defender Melissa Crespo
On handling BYU's speed - "I wasn't really nervous. All week we practiced absorbing their speed and keeping them in front of us. I was confident that I could do that and if anyone got behind me, I'd have someone backing me up."
On Amanda Feigt's goal - "It really lifted everyone. It's awesome to see Amanda just kick butt and come up with big goals. I think she deserved every bit of that. She's amazing."
Utah Forward Amanda Feigt
On beating BYU - "It was exciting to come back after getting behind to a really good team. We never had any doubt. We believe in each other and kept battling together. When we looked at the clock and they scored, and there was 37 some minutes left, we knew we had plenty of time."
On what she and forward Adele Letro were trying to do when she scored the goal - "We were just trying to make runs and different runs and catch them off guard. We were just trying not to be predictable. Me and Adele have had passes like that before. She just knows how to find me and we play really well together. She's a great passer."
Utah Defender Michelle Deatherage
On sacrificing her body on defense - "Anyone would have done it. We watched a video of the BYU game that was the first one we had one in a while, and you just saw someone making a dive to save a goal. You remember that. You really have to give everything you have,"
On handling BYU's forwards - "They're really good and we've been talking about their forwards a lot this week. They all have different talents. They are all very fast and they are really quick on the ball. We concentrated all week on just keeping them in front of you and working really well. Everyone did a great job, from the forwards playing defense, to the midfielders, to the defenders. It was awesome. And I think that came from good communication, too. Hearing people talk on the field is what kept us together."
