SALT LAKE CITY - - The University of Utah swimming teams opened up the 2005-06 season by hosting BYU and Villanova in the Don Reddish Relays. The exhibition meet consisted of 24 relay events.
Utah posted wins in the 500 freestyle relays. The women's squad of Amy Barefield, Amber Walter, Shannon McQueen and Alison McInturff posted a time of 4:37.84 for the win, outdistancing second place by 8.28 seconds. David Maasberg, Jonathan Larsen, Andrew Cole and Jeremy Clark finished with a 4:05.91 mark for the men.
Walter, Barefield, Jennifer Fredsall and McInturff won the 200 and 400 freestyle relays with times of 1:36.75 and 3:32.94 respectively.
"It was nice to get up and race," said Head Coach Michael Litzinger. "For this being an early season meet, our freshman showed us some bright spots, and our upperclassmen carried the team."
The Utes dive into the pool next, when they host the Ute Senior Meet, Oct. 21, 2005. The meet will start at 6 p.m. at Ute Natatorium.
