SOLDIER HOLLOW, Utah - Junior nordic skier Barbro Hatlevik skied to a 12th-place finish in the 5-km skate at the U-23 FIS Championships. Hatlevik finished ahead of Finland's Sari Tuovinen, with an overall time of 35:13.5.

Justyna Kowalczyk from Poland skied away immediately off the start, and had a lead of 45 seconds into the race. Even though she briefly stopped to recover a bit with 2-km to go on the final skate section, she easily stayed ahead of the rest of the field, lead by Stephanie Santer and Christina Kelder from Italy.

Utah's Daniel Sonntag and Sandra Gredig will compete this weekend in the 30-km and 15-km free-technique events. Both of these mass-start races will be skied at Soldier Hollow, Utah.
