SALT LAKE CITY -
Each week a Ute gymnast submits an excerpt for the Utah Gymnastics Journal. This week's edition is provided by sophomore Rachel Tidd.
Hey Ute fans!
I hope everyone had a good and spooky Halloween! The "Red Rocks" started ours a couple of days early. We had a costume contest on Friday, which was a lot of fun. Everyone except Katie, who was sick that day, really got into the spirit and looked great. Dom was our first place winner. She was dressed as a street lady. Gritty was a blind referee and took second place. "Good girl gone bad," Jess and zombie, Ash tied for third. You can check out our costumes on our | HALLOWEEN | photo page.
Greg changed up our workout on Friday. Just for fun, we all attempted a full routine on each event. For each hit routine, we could get out of one round of circuit training. So, getting everyone out of circuit was our big goal for the day! Not that I don't like conditioning, but... let's just say we were all HIGHLY motivated. Anyway, everyone did an unbelievable job, especially considering we were just ending combinations that week. No one had to do any conditioning. YEA! Looks like we're way ahead of schedule. Bring it on UCLA!
After gym that day, Queenie, Riff, Nat, and AB showed their school spirit, as they painted their stomachs with U-T-A-H, and cheered on our swimmers at their meet.
Saturday we got our groove on with a little bit of hip-hop for our aerobics workout. Then after our weight training, we meet with our sports psychologist, Keith Henschen. He gave us a few tips on how to keep our motivation up and deal with our every day stresses...including BOYS!
Later that night, some of the team had fun at a Halloween party with some of the swimmers. Steph and I got together with our boyfriends and watched "Dawn of the Dead" to get us into the scary Halloween mood. But then we had to finish up the night with "Aladdin" just so we wouldn't have any nightmares.
Well, that's about it for this week, but make sure you stay tuned for next week's journal by Ashley. Come by and see us. We love company!
GO UTES!
