PROVO, Utah - The University of Utah men and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Provo to take on in-state rival BYU in the Beehive Relays. The women's team won eight of 10 events, but was disqualified in two of the events to finish in a tie while the men's team fell to the Cougars.
The women won the 300 fly relay consisting of Meghan Demchuk, Michelle Blair and Alison McInturff with a time of 2:52.96. In the 300 breast relay, Ariane Kich, Adrienne Coburn and Caitlin Tidwell posted a time of 3:23.01 to finish first. The Utes also posted first place wins in the 500 free, 400 medley, 200 free, 1500 free and the 400 free relay events.
For the men, Utah's 500 free relay team of David Maasberg, Jonathan Larsen, Matan Ratz and Andrew Cole finished first with a time of 4:04.47. In the 200 free relay, Utah posted a time of 1:23.81 to take top honors with Cody Rempfer, Larsen, Cole and Maasberg competing for the Utes. Rempfer, Nick Galen, Andrew Brown and Nick Philpot finished with a time of 3:33.39 to take top honors in the 100 IM relay.
In the diving events, Sterling Richards scored 574.54 points to finish first in the one-meter diving event while finishing second in the three-meter event with a score of 506.02. Freshman Kiera Higbee finished second in the one-meter event and third in the three-meter event with scores of 404.85 and 384.60 respectively.
Up next the men's team hosts Notre Dame on Friday, Oct. 29, at Ute Natatorium at 5 p.m. MDT. The women's team travels to California to take on San Diego on Friday, Oct. 29, and MWC opponent San Diego State on Saturday.
