SALT LAKE CITY -
The University of Utah gymnastics program, winner of a record 10 national championships and 21 regional championships, will have the opportunity to compete before a home crowd during the postseason in both 2005 and 2007.
The Huntsman Center was selected as host arena for the 2005 NCAA North Central Region Championships and the 2007 NCAA Championships, the NCAA office has announced. It marks the 10th time Salt Lake City has been awarded a regional championship and the Utes are 9-0 in regional competitions they have hosted, most recently this past season.
Utah last hosted an NCAA Championships back in 1999. The Utes have hosted seven previous national championships, starting with the 1981 AIAW Championship. The Huntsman Center was chosen for six NCAA Championships (1982, 1983, 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1994). Utah won four of those and finished second in 1987 and 1988.
