INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of Utah men's swimming team completed its best-ever finish at the 2003 ConocoPhillips National Swimming Championships with 29 points, finishing 19th overall in a field where over 200 teams competed and 62 scored at the meet.
The Utah 400 meter medley relay team of David Fleisch, Evan Castro, Cody Rempfer and David Johnson recorded the Utes highest finish with a seventh place time of 3:55.97. The same four swimmers also finished 14th in the 400 meter freestyle relay with a time of 3:34.96. Individually the Utes recorded top times by Cody Rempfer in the 100 Fly (56.11) finishing 30th, Evan Castro in the 100 Breast (1:05.78) leaving him in 38th and Jonathan Larsen in the 100 Free (52.72) good for 46th.
The Ute women also swam very well in an extremely deep field. The 800 meter freestyle relay team consisting of Neringa Statkeviciute, Loren Sweny, Kristen Kaiser and Melissa Young finished 20th with a time of 8:39.97. The 400 meter freestyle relay team of Statkeviciute, Sweny, Kaiser and Amy Barefield finished 32nd.
