OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla.- The Utah swimming and diving team finished the first day of competition at the Mountain West Conference Championships on Wednesday. The men are in fifth with a team score of 62, while the women are currently in sixth with a score of 73.
The Ute women set a new school and MWC Championships record as the 800 free relay team of Neringa Statkeviciute, Kristen Kaiser, Marta Stepanczuk and Loren Sweny swam a time of 7:23.63, the win was the team's first conference relay title in school history. The women's 200 medley relay team of Leah Jensen, Tessa Greegor, Meghan Demchuk and Amy Barefield finished third with a time of 1:47.80.
Utah's men finished third in the 200 medley relay (1:30.5) swam by David Fleisch, Evan Castro, Cody Rempfer and Jonathan Larsen. The Utes added a fourth place finish in the 800 free relay as Jonathan Kane, Matan Ratz, Tanner Folster and Corey Kilpatrick swam a time of 6:47.0. This is the first time in three years Utah has not finished last in the relays.
Day two events begin at 10:00 a.m. CST, on Thursday, Feb. 20.
