SALT LAKE CITY -
So... another week is over. In fact, it was our last week of routine development, which means we're now into the "full swing of things" with routines, routines, and more routines... one step closer to an exciting and prosperous season.
In preparation for this Friday's "Meet the Team" event (which I hope you are all coming to) we held a "mock meet" in the gym on Friday. It was a great learning experience, especially for the freshmen, and a small taste of what's to come next semester (even for some of the upperclassmen). Except for a few imperfections here and there, in general everyone did a wonderful job and now we know exactly what we have to work on for next week. Of course we're not going to show off everything we've been working on (saving that for the REAL meets), but all I can say is: be ready for some new and exciting routines! Especially on floor!
To break up the regular Saturday morning routine of spinning workouts, the Red Rocks busted out their boxing gloves and put on our mean faces for a one-on-one boxing brawl. Sound like fun? Yes, absolutely! But definitely a tough workout (how are the arms doing girls?), not to mention a great way to vent any frustrations (in or out of the gym). Aki should have some good pictures up on our photo gallery site soon.
Our season is just around the corner, but Thanksgiving is even closer. We have no official practices over the break (Wednesday-Sunday) so many team members are traveling home (or somewhere else) to see their families. It's hard being away from home for so long especially if it's your first time (and I know that feeling all too well), so some of them are getting very excited ... how many more days, Queenie? Even those not going away (since home is a little too far for just four days) are looking forward to the break - especially from classes.
Well I guess that's about all I have to say for this week. Don't forget this Friday in the Huntsman at 7:00 p.m., we'll introduce the 2004 Red Rocks, have a Red vs. White intra-squad exhibition, give away our new 2004 team poster, sign autographs and take pictures with our fans. The ticket office staff will be there to take season ticket orders. They'll tie balloons tied to about 400 seats that we have available in the first 20 rows. As always, you are also welcome to pop in and say hi any time during our practices.
P.S. The Ute football team is doing great, but for any of you who are rugby fans... South Africa lost to New Zealand in the World Cup so now we are out of the running.
GO UTES!
BEAT THAT TEAM DOWN THE ROAD!
