SALT LAKE CITY -
Well, one part of our training (combinations) is over, and another one
(routine development) begins this week, taking us closer and closer to what
everybody is waiting for with great impatience -- our competition season!
Everyone in the gym is working hard to be ready for January, and I think our
fans will be impressed with all the new stuff that we have to show. With
almost everybody having a new routine, floor should be particularly exciting
to watch. Even Greg has a new look to show our fans!
Although some of us had a slow start due to injuries, our trainer Tom has done an incredible job at getting the whole team back on its feet. So much so that he even has time to get out of the training room to watch practice now! We better keep our eyes open outside of the gym however, because sometimes, the "real world" can be more dangerous than doing double backs and flipping on a beam! Ask Gritt about that crazy skateboarder who ran into her on campus, or me about that scary bike crash that I took a few weeks ago!
Other than these couple of incidents though, the team is doing pretty well. With four new girls, four sophomores and four upperclassmen, it makes our team quite an interesting mix, and with nine of them basically living together in the dorms, practices are never boring! Of course, fights about what kind of music we are going to listen to during practice and who will start on their favorite station for conditioning are a given, but that is something to expect when you put twelve girls together! Besides, we always compensate by cheering for each other, and even though we work and push each other, a good laugh always seems to make it easier.
Speaking of laughing, we are having a costume contest on Friday for Halloween, so any of our fans who need a good laugh are more than welcome to come watch practice, but wear something fun. The winner will be released from conditioning that day, so the competition should be fierce.
If you can't make our Halloween practice, but want to get a little preview of our routines, meet the team, and get autographs and pictures with your favorite gymnast, don't miss the "Red Rocks Preview" that will take place on November 21, at 7:00 PM in the Huntsman Center.
Well, that's it for our diary this week. Make sure to read AB's entry next week to know the outcome of our Halloween costume contest! Until then take care and have a Happy Halloween!
GO UTES!
