SALT LAKE CITY -
Senior Melissa Vituj and junior Annabeth Eberle have been named the 2004 Utah gymnastics co-captains by a vote of their teammates. The two, co-MVPs of last year's Ute team, "have exceptional leadership abilities," said Utah Head Coach Greg Marsden. "Melissa and Annabeth are great examples to their teammates, both on and off the competitive floor. They have really set the tone in the gym with their enthusiasm and determination," Marsden praised.
Utah's leading all-arounders a year ago, both Eberle and Vituj became All-America all-arounders for the first time. Eberle finished fourth at the NCAA Championships to earn first-team All-America honors, while Vituj took ninth place, good for second-team honors.
Vituj, an eight-time All-American, is a three-time NCAA floor exercise finalist. Eberle's sensational sophomore season culminated in three All-America awards in 2003, including first-team honors in the all-around and on the vault.
