After placing fourth at the NCAA Gymnastics Championships, several University of Utah gymnasts have continued to rack up honors. Seniors Shannon Bowles and Deidra Graham were named finalists for an NCAA post-graduate scholarship. Bowles, a nine-time All-American and the 2002 NCAA Region Gymnast of the Year, carries a 3.813 cumulative grade point average in her dual major of exercise and sport science and psychology. Graham, a six-time All-American, has a 3.47 cumulative GPA in sociology and posted a 4.00 fall semester.
Bowles received the U.'s Bud Jack Award at the Senior/Hall of Fame Banquet, recognizing her for having the best GPA of any senior varsity female athlete on campus. In addition, she will be the alternate speaker at commencement ceremonies on May 10 after placing second in a campus-wide contest.
Junior 12-time All-American and three-time NCAA individual event champion Theresa Kulikowski has been named a finalist for the Honda Sports Award, honoring the nation's top collegiate athlete in each sport. The Honda Award has donated $1,000 to the women's athletics fund at the U. for Kulikowski's selection.
Junior All-American Kim Allan was elected president of Utah's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) for the 2002-03 school year. SAAC has representatives from each of Utah's 19 varsity sports.
