Utah Women's Basketball On Three Game Win Streak

Salt Lake City - The University of Utah women's basketball team defeated the Air Force Falcons, 71-53 on Sat., Feb. 16 at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. Utah improves to 13-10 overall, 6-5 in MWC play. The Falcons drop to 4-18 overall, 0-9 in the MWC.
The Utes went on a 22-4 run with 21 seconds left in the first half to break the game wide open. Utah went into the break leading 33-19 and shot 42 percent (11-26) from the field, 36 percent (5-14) from behind the arc and 86 percent (6-7) from the free-throw line in the first half. Air Force managed to shoot just 7-of-29 from the field, 2-of-6 from 3-point range and 3-of-5 from the free-throw line before the break.
On the night, Utah had four players score in double figures. Senior Lindsay Herbert led the way, making 7-of-12 from the field and 4-of-7 from downtown for 18 points. Lauren Beckman scored 10 points, nine rebounds, four assists, five blocked shots and three steals. Erin Gibbons scored 13 points, while Lana Sitterud chipped in 10 points. As a team, the Utes went 19-of-43 from the field, 10-of-23 from three-point range and 23-of-27 from the free-throw line. Utah scored 24 points on Air Force turnovers, 25 points from the bench and out-rebounded the Falcons, 35-27.
Shawna Neff came off the bench to lead all scorers, racking up 22 points in just 16 minutes of play. Neff went 7-of-12 from the field, 5-of-6 from 3-point range and 3-of-4 from the free-throw line. Air Force shot 34 percent (17-50) from the field, 47 percent (8-17) from the behind the arc and 58 percent (11-19) from the free-throw line.
"This was a special game for our seniors," said Head Coach Elaine Elliott. "It was their last game at home and they played great. We started out a little slow and then got our offense going. I think we are very capable and dangerous and have been showing that the past three games. I am happy with the win."
UP NEXT: On Sat., Feb. 23, Utah will face Brigham Young in Provo, Utah at 4:00 p.m. The Utes will match-up with the San Diego State Aztecs on Thurs., Feb. 28 at 5:30 p.m. in San Diego, Calif. On Sat., Mar. 2, Utah will play UNLV at 5:00 p.m. in Las Vegas, Nev. The Utes will participate in the MWC Tournament on Mar. 6-9 in Las Vegas, Nev.
