ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Defending NCAA women's slalom champion, Petra Svet, was named the Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association's Women's Alpine Skier of the Week for her performance at the New Mexico Invitational.
Svet skied her way to a second place finish in the slalom and a fifth place showing in the giant slalom at the UNM invite. She has three podium finishes to her credit this season, including a winning performance in the giant slalom at the Montana State Invitational.
The Skier of the Week honor can be won only once by an athlete in a season. For the second consecutive year, Svet has earned the recognition, building to an impressive resume that includes being an NCAA champion, a 2001 first team All-American, the Toril Forland Outstanding Skier Award recipient, an academic All-American and a National Multiple Sclerosis Society's Female Collegiate Athlete of the Year award winner.
With the RMISA Regional Championships coming up on Feb. 27-28, Svet is hoping to lead the Utes to a late-season victory and to continue her reign as NCAA slalom champion at the NCAA Championships on Mar. 6-9.
