LAS VEGAS -
Utah defensive coordinator Kyle Whittingham won co-defensive coordinator of the year and Jordan Gross and Jason Kaufusi were named to the first-team of the Las Vegas Review Journal media all-Mountain West Conference team.
Whittingham and New Mexico defensive coordinator Bronco Mendenhall each received six votes for Best Defensive Coordinator in the poll, which was voted on by 19 media members who cover the MWC.
Gross is a senior offensive lineman who has made every all-conference team and three All-America teams to date. Kaufusi, a junior defensive end, has also been named to every all-conference first-team released.
Utes named to the Las Vegas Review Journal second-team were junior running back Brandon Warfield, senior defensive tackle Garrett Smith, senior defensive tackle Lauvale Sape, junior defensive back Dave Revill, junior defensive back Antwoine Sanders and kick returner Bo Nagahi. On the three previous all-Mountain West Conference teams released (the official MWC, College Football News and The Sporting News), Smith and Sanders were named to the first team.
The Las Vegas Review Journal also named an honorable mention team that included senior receiver Paris Jackson, sophomore offensive lineman Chris Kemoeatu, junior offensive lineman Dustin McQuivey, junior defensive end Josh Savage, senior linebacker Brooks Bahr, senior linebacker Sheldon Deckart and senior punter Brian Lewis of Utah.
