SALT LAKE CITY- The Utah men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell to Florida State on Saturday. The Ute women lost 142-99 to the 23rd ranked Noles', while the men fell 132-109.
The men won 7 of 13 events. They were led by Jonathan Larsen who won three events, 100 free (45.40), 50 free (21.03) and he was on the 200 medley relay team (133.61) with David Fleisch, Evan Castro and Cody Rempfer. Rempfer also won the 400 IM (4:06.76). Eric Jorgensen was the other two-event winner for the men winning the 500 free (4:46.39) and the 1650 free (16:30.28). "I'm very pleased with the guys," comments Head Coach Michael Litzinger. "We are starting to open some eyes, not just on the conference level but the national level."
Leading the way for the women was Neringa Statkeviciute and Kristen Kaiser with two wins each. Statkeviciute won the 200 free (1:52.77) and the 100 free (51.44). Kaiser was a winner in the 400 IM (4:30.23) and also the 500 free (5:02.91). The women won 5 of 13 events.
"We hung tough with one of the best teams in the nation and I am very proud of both teams," says Litzinger. "The team was not tentative, we went after them and a lot of our swimmers had personal bests."
Utah will have its next meet on Dec. 7, at UNLV. The next home meet will be Jan. 10, when the women face Oregon State.
