SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah head women's basketball coach Elaine Elliott has received a National Letter of Intent from Camie Allen of Marcus High School in Flower Mound, Texas.
"We are extremely excited to have Camie," Elliott said. "She's excited to have selected Utah and will bring us immediate support in our inside game."
The 2001-02 District Co-Offensive Player of the Year, Allen is a 6-1 post player. She averaged 13.3 points, 11.1 rebounds, 3.5 blocks and 2.5 steals per game last year as a junior. A first-team all-district selection, she was the team MVP and a second-team all-area honoree. She was also ranked in the Top 10 in Texas by Mike Kunstadt's recruiting service (posted on TexasHoops.com) and was named to both the Bishop Lynch Tournament and Arlington Classic Tournament all-tournament teams.
As a sophomore, Allen was named first-team all district and was the Defensive Player of the Year.
"I think Camie's best playing days are still ahead of her," Allen's high school coach Kit Kyle said. "She has been a dominating player at times in high school on both ends of the floor and I see continual improvement from her from year to year and even from month to month. I'm very excited that she's chosen Utah -- I think she'll fit into their system extremely well."
