SALT LAKE CITY -
Hungarian gymnast Gabriella Onodi, who signed a National Letter of Intent back in July to attend the University of Utah, will compete in the Individual Event World Championships this week, hosted by her country in Debrecen, Hungary. Onodi, who lives and trains in Budapest, will compete on bars and floor.
Onodi will join the Utes this January. Citing exhaustion, she took the 2001 season off before returning to training last January. She finished 14th in the all-around at the 1998 European Championships and 49th in the all-around at the 1999 World Championships.
Onodi told International Gymnastics she is dedicating her upcoming performance at the Individual Event World Championships to her father, who died on July 30. About her decision to attend Utah, Onodi said, "There are lots of famous universities in the U.S. I chose Utah because this university has some of the best results in gymnastics."
