ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Rocky Mountain Intercollegiate Ski Association named its first Skier of the Week honorees for the 2002 season. Two athletes from the University of Utah were among the eight skiers selected.
Freshman Pierre Olsson was named the men's alpine Skier of the Week for his performance at the Montana State University Invitational. Olsson skied his way to first place in the slalom and notched second place in the giant slalom. The native of Borlange, Sweden added a second-place finish in the slalom at the University of Nevada-Reno Invitational.
Utah's top-performer at the UNR Invite, Sophomore Jorunn Oye, was named the women's nordic Skier of the Week for her second-place finish in the classic competition and third-place run in the skate event. In her first year of competition at the U., Oye has earned top-ten finishes in both disciplines at MSU and UNR. Oye hales from Sauda, Norway.
The Utes are hoping to continue their early success at the Denver Invitational on Jan. 25-26.
